Working this week as Audio-Video Tech at the DoubleTree Hilton at 6 Greenway Plaza. Some Houston city views from the 20th floor Plaza conference room.
Looking south at the all glass faces of Greenway Plaza 9 & 11 buildings on right. The Greenway Hi-Rise Condominiums at 14 & 15 Greenway Plaza on Timmons Lane are at center left. Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church is on the left out of view.
Looking north at Greenway Plaza buldings 3,4 and 5 and down at the concourse level in between.
Greenway Plaza just off US 59/I-69 freeway is a 52-acre master-planned, mixed-use development with 11 buildings and roughly 4.9 million square feet of office space.
Was thankful for PSAV Presentation Services work at the Hilton Americas setting up A/V & projection for a large convention last week. It was another beautiful clear dry Houston spring day.
The Hilton is located at 1600 Lamar Street, right next to downtown’s Discovery Green park and the George R. Brown Convention Center. It’s just a stones throw from the Toyota Center [NBA Rockets Home] and Minute Maid Park [MLB Astros Home]. And just across the freeway is BBVA Compass Stadium [MLS Dynamo Home]. It’s all right in the midst of the revitalized convention district of Houston.
So, Get outside and enjoy these days before the heat and humidity soon come !

Spent a very pleasant spring day in Downtown Houston on Friday, March 24th at the old Fed Bank building at 1301 Texas Avenue. The original Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas Branch building was built in 1922. This neoclassic designed 3 story building is now home to the Houston Area Urban League and houses small business incubator, The Houston Economic Empowerment Center.
Spent the afternoon setting up camera, lights and testing the outbound transmission link for upcoming news interviews to originate at TWICE MEDIA PRODUCTIONS studios. Contact information at the weblinks below.

A Houston parking-garage gives new meaning to parking in the woods.
It’s going to be typical ‘June in Houston’ type weather. So the roof will probably be closed. The name has changed but NRG Stadium [ formerly Reliant Stadium ]
is ready and waiting to host Copa America Centenario Semifinals match-up
on Tuesday June 21, 2016 at 8pm . And yes, the AstroDome is still there.
It is the BIGGEST GAME ever, maybe, to come to Houston, Texas !
The US Men’s National Soccer Team takes on Lionel Messi and
Argentina in a semifinal match.
Houston’s winner goes on to the COPA AMERICA CENTENARIO FINAL game versus the winner of the June 22nd semifinal in Chicago between COLOMBIA & CHILE. Final match is June 26, 2016 in East Rutherford, NJ.
The Toyota Center in Houston is the home of Houston’s NBA Houston Rockets and hosts other events and concerts.
This past weekend the Ultimate Fighting Championship came to town for UFC#192. Saturday’s UFC 192 event drew an announced attendance of 14,622 fans for a live gate of $1.859 million.
NBA basketball preseason is upon us with Houston Rockets hosting Dallas Mavericks on October 7th.
Interstate I-45 and Buffalo Bayou run through the westside of Downtown Houston.
The “Buffalo Bayou Torches” on I-45 south are 30-foot-tall stainless steel torches that mark the edges of the Bayou as Interstate 45 crosses the waterway. The Bayou runs through the heart of Houston and is home for the Buffalo Bayou Promenade.
The Buffalo Bayou Promenade Park designed by SWA Group for the Buffalo Bayou Partnership solves flooding problems, improves ecological structure and function, and provides Houstonians with access to the urban waterfront.
Nice article by Timber Press’ Roxi Thoren on the Bayou Park: Landscape of change: Buffalo Bayou Promenade
With 162 games in a LONG regular season, I’m not much of a baseball fan until it
really counts, in October….finally playoff time. So I had to double check when I saw this. But the Houston Astros are presently 72-58, good enough for 1st in the AL Western Division. They have the most wins in a season since 2010 and still have about 30 games left to play !
Wondered how this could be ? Found this very interesting article in USA Today: “Overshifting a huge part of first-place Astros’ success”.
Apparently a key reason is by using a complex statistical model as a guide for their innovative and aggressive defensive shifting on the field. The Astros lead all of baseball with 587 overshifts according to Baseball Info Solutions data . This has helped them become one of the better defensive teams in MLB.
WAY TO GO ASTROS !
Always loved that retractable roof at Astros ball field Minute Maid Park. (AKA The Ballpark at Union Station, Enron Field, and Astros Field)
It’s a sunny day drive along Clay Street and past the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Downtown Houston. Antioch celebrates 150 years in Houston in February 2016. Three Allen Center building is reflected in the glass windows of the building at 1400 Smith Street, with the 1600 Smith Street building rising up behind the church.
“Amidst the skyscrapers of Houston, Antioch Missionary Baptist Church continues to serve the needs of her people and community, proudly proclaiming the message: Jesus Saves.”
Another rainy day in Houston at Main Street & Preston. METRORail Red Line runs along Main in the Historic part of Downtown Houston. The tall building in background is the Hotel Icon originally built in 1911 as the Union National Bank Building, one of the state’s most prominent financial institutions at the time.
